Architects Granted Reprieve on LLP’s

Persons licensed to engage in the practice architecture, public accountancy, engineering, land surveying, or law may form a limited liability partnership to engage in those professions.  A limited liability partnership is a general partnership that limits the liablity of the partners for the obligations of the firm so long as they provide security (as specified in the statute) for claims based on acts, errors, or omissions arising out of the practice of the profession.

There was a sunset provision for architects. Under existing law, architects could organize their practice as a limited liability partnership only until 2012.  By reason of chapter 291 of the Statutes of 2011 (AB 560), the time is extended until 2019.  Effective 2012.
